I am presently writing a book specifically addressed to veterans and their families called “How to Cope with Post Trauma Stress before it becomes a Disorder.”
I have a deep concern for our veterans who will be coming home from overseas in greater and greater numbers over the next months and couple of years. If other wars are any indication, almost a third will have some degree of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
If you or someone you know has PTSD from any reason such as natural disasters or accidents or man made disasters such as war, or you just want to know more about the topic, read my tips of how to cope, and tell others to read my website as well. I will be giving out one new tip each week.
I am a psychiatric nurse, with regittrasion in PA, presently living in upstate NY.I am seeking to have my license activated in NY.During my extensive experience in working in the behavioral sciences, and with an awareness of the growing numbers of our veterans returning with PTSD, I am desirous of being of assistance to them and their families. As I pursue NY licensure, and as the Veterans Administration is a federal entity, it seems that I could arguably qualify for employment at the federal level, by using my PA nursing license. Reading the accounts of the many women and men and their families who are suffering with this painful disorder and the increasing rate of suicide, I would like to be of assisstance, as the system seems to be in need of mental health professionals. I also have a masters degree in clinical psychology and am a certified hospice chaplain. I believe that my combination of education and experience could be made to fruitful use for those in need. Hopefully someone in a HR capacity will see this posting as I continue to search for a way to be of assistance. To those who are suffering, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
You are very qualified and so hope you have found a way to help our veterans. They very much need it. You might want to contact the Veteran’s Center in your area, the VFW, Gold Star Mothers, Wives. Check on line especially for women veterans who have been traumatized severely from rape. Families are often more open to help than the veterans themselves. Vietnam Veterans are going through a really tough time right now as well. Churches are dealing more and more with hurting veterans and are open to counselors. I have, however, not found the VA very open to working with them. Hope this helps and please keep in contact.
